What is AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) in Apparel Industry?

Updated: Jun 5, 2021

In the apparel business, before accepting the finished goods from the manufacturer buyer do an inspection of products . because the batch of products inspection isn't viable, also not advisable, inspection is completed on the sampling basis. In inspection what proportion percentage of defective pieces are going to be accepted depends on acceptable quality level.

In the following table, a sampling plan is given for final shipment inspection. The AQL level varies process to process, product to product and even buyer to buyer.

Definition of AQL

The AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) is that the maximum percent defective that for the aim of sampling inspection are often considered satisfactory as a process average.

Table: Sampling plan for shipment inspection:

How to Read AQL table?

Lot or Batch size: this suggests total what percentage pieces inspector goes to see or inspect. (i.e. if you've got been offered a shipment of 600 pieces order quantity, the batch size of this shipment will fall into 501 to 1200 pieces (Code-J)

sample size code letters

Sample size Code letter: This code is indicative of a variety of batch size. (Code 'G' means your lot size range is from 151 pieces to 280 pieces.

Sample size: It means what percentage pieces are going to be picked up for shipment inspection from the entire offered pieces (Batch).

Ac (Accepted): the amount during this column denotes that if the inspector finds up thereto much defective pieces the shipment are going to be accepted by the customer .

Re (Rejected): On the opposite hand number during this column denotes that if the inspector finds that a lot of defective pieces or quite the listed number, the shipment are going to be rejected (or asked the manufacturer for 100% inspection and re-offer for final inspection) by the customer .

Example:

Suppose you've got been offered a shipment of 1000 pieces for inspection.

Select the range from the table, it's 501-1200.

Now from the AQL table, you would like to pick the amount of samples you're getting to actually inspect. consistent with the above AQL chart, you would like to pick 80 pieces out of 1000 pieces.

Now assume that you simply are inspecting at 2.5 AQL.

So, after inspecting all 80 pieces if you found 5 or but 5 defective pieces, you would like to simply accept the shipment. And if you discover 6 or quite 6 defective pieces in 80 samples, you ned to reject that shipment.
